Eurostar Luggage Allowance: Handbags, Route Limits and Documents

Dieser Ratgeber wurde noch nicht übersetzt. Lesen Sie die englische Version. Auf Englisch lesen

Eurostar Standard and Plus allow two pieces of luggage plus one small piece of hand luggage, such as a handbag or backpack. The travel-planning page lists three main pieces plus one hand bag for Premier, but the general conditions and help page do not repeat that class exception. Confirm the entitlement on your booking. Check your route as well as your travel class: luggage sizes and the departure process differ between London services and other routes.

Luggage guidance, route conditions and help page checked October 11, 2026; departure guidance below retains its October 8 check. Confirm your ticket and the linked rules before departure, especially for children, special items and excess luggage.

How much luggage can you take?

Adult class allowance shown in the travel-planning page; Premier needs a booking check because the general conditions differ.
Travel class Main luggage Small hand luggage
Standard Two pieces One piece
Plus Two pieces One piece
Premier Three pieces One piece

The official luggage guide gives a maximum length of 85 cm on routes to and from London, and 75 cm on other routes. It does not impose a general weight limit on the luggage included in your ticket, but you must be able to carry it safely yourself. Check the separate rules for extra, oversized or specialist items rather than treating them as part of this ordinary allowance.

The conditions of carriage add important detail: continental routes specify two main bags up to 75 × 53 × 30 cm plus one hand bag, while the London-route adult clause says two main bags up to 85 cm long plus one hand bag. The luggage help page also gives two plus one without the Premier exception. The reason for this difference is not confirmed. Check the class entitlement for your exact service, rather than treating the Premier table as unconditional permission.

The conditions place certain Eurostar-operated Lille–Brussels services under London Routes. Identify the service on the booking; geography alone does not decide which clause applies.

Keep the train and next museum in one checklist

Use the Eurostar London-route and Louvre checklist or the continental-route rule card. The train and museum keep separate restrictions. A bag accepted on the train does not establish admission to a museum or luggage-storage availability.

Do not transfer an airline's one-personal-item rule to Eurostar. The train allowance explicitly includes small hand luggage alongside main bags. Equally, “no general weight limit” does not mean you can bring unlimited bags or more than you can handle.

London route or European continental route?

For services to and from London, Eurostar's departure guide says passport and luggage checks take place before boarding. Use the recommended arrival time on your ticket; it is different from the time when the gates close. Keep the travel documents required for your journey and your ticket ready.

On routes between Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany that do not travel to or from London, the same guide describes going to the platform and having the ticket checked during the journey. It recommends arriving 20 minutes before departure and being ready to board at least five minutes before departure, or ten minutes from Paris Gare du Nord. Recheck your actual booking rather than assuming this process applies to a London connection.

If your trip changes trains, identify where the London departure checks occur. Do not pack your documents away because the first leg has a simpler boarding process.

Keep hand luggage useful when the suitcase is in a rack

Decide which items you want accessible without opening a suitcase: your ticket, required documents, phone, payment method and necessary personal items. Keep the smaller bag closed between uses, and follow staff instructions about its placement. A rack location does not make your main luggage someone else's responsibility.

For this separate essentials role, compare Norevix Crossbody Bag 2.0. Regular lists empty external dimensions of 19 × 13.5 × 2 cm; Large lists 22 × 15 × 3 cm. These figures do not establish which phone, wallet or document holder fits together. They also do not certify acceptance by Eurostar.

Rehearse the boarding sequence

  1. Check every leg, travel class and bag count against the booking.
  2. Pack and close the main bags. Measure them and confirm that you can carry the complete load yourself.
  3. Assign tickets and documents a reachable place in the small bag.
  4. Allow time for the departure process on your route. After checks, count your bags and return documents to their assigned place.
  5. Check your seat and luggage before leaving the train, including overhead shelves and racks.

Use the essentials measurement guide, the Regular versus Large comparison and the Europe city-trip checklist. If the trip also includes a flight, separately review the backpack and crossbody flight-day plan; a train allowance does not carry over to the airline.

Check every leg before packing

Keep required documents accessible and plan separate capacity for the items that do not fit a compact bag.
