Bag specification glossary: twelve terms and the limit of each

Read bag specifications as separate claims: yarn, fabric construction, component and complete bag. The twelve entries below explain what to check before buying. Missing Norevix figures remain unknown rather than being inferred from a material or hardware name.

Denier (D)
A unit of yarn linear mass: grams per 9,000 metres. 500D means that length of the specified yarn weighs 500 g; 1000D means 1,000 g. It does not give fabric weight, weave, coating or a finished-bag performance rating. Compare actual empty weights and material constructions separately.
Fabric weight (g/m²)
The mass of fabric per unit area, expressed in grams per square metre. Check whether a quoted weight includes coatings or laminate layers. It is distinct from yarn denier and the empty weight of an assembled bag. Norevix does not publish fabric weight for Crossbody Bag 2.0.
Water-resistant
A claim that a material or product resists water under stated conditions. Its scope may concern a fabric finish or a complete item; the label alone specifies neither duration nor pressure. Compare the test method, result and component coverage. It does not establish submersion protection.
Hydrostatic head
The height of a water column resisted before leakage in a specified test, commonly expressed in millimetres. Related water-pressure results may use bar or psi. Compare methods and conditions; a fabric test does not establish seam or zipper performance. Norevix has not published a hydrostatic-head result for this bag.
Personal item
An airline baggage category, usually for a smaller item stowed under the seat. Whether it is allowed alongside a carry-on depends on the fare and operating carrier. Check permitted count, packed dimensions, weight and stowage rather than assuming a worn sling is an extra allowance.
Capacity (litres)
A stated volume, commonly in litres. Check the measurement method and which compartments are included before comparing brands. External dimensions multiplied together do not establish usable interior volume or item fit. Capacity in litres is not separately specified for Crossbody Bag 2.0.
Strap adjustment range
The shortest and longest stated strap settings. Check how the range is measured and try the bag's landing position with your clothing, body size and carry method. Crossbody Bag 2.0 lists 75–135 cm; that range alone does not establish comfort or fit for every wearer.
Cut-resistant strap
A strap described as resisting cutting, sometimes using cable or fibre reinforcement. Identify the reinforcement's location and any test conditions. Cut-resistant is not cut-proof; strap reinforcement does not establish protection for the bag body or zippers. Norevix lists steel-cable shoulder-strap reinforcement without independent cut-test results.
RFID-blocking lining
A lining intended to reduce radio-frequency reads through the lined area. Check the supported frequency, item placement and test coverage rather than assuming all cards or documents are protected. Norevix lists RFID-blocking material without independent results here; the feature does not prevent theft of the bag or online card-number theft.
YKK
A zipper manufacturer, not a zipper performance rating. Check the series: YKK describes AquaGuard as water repellent, not waterproof or watertight, and AQUASEAL as a distinct waterproof zipper family. Whole-bag performance also depends on installation, seams and the shell. Norevix names YKK but does not identify a series or published water rating.
Ripstop
A woven construction using reinforcing yarns in a grid intended to resist tear propagation. It does not guarantee that tears stop at every grid line or establish abrasion resistance, cut resistance or waterproofing. Confirm fibre, grid construction and the relevant test. Norevix does not publish a ripstop weave for this bag.
Laminate
A material formed by bonding layers, which may include a woven face and a film or backing. Record the exact layer construction, weight and relevant test rather than relying on face-yarn denier. A laminate fabric's water result does not establish complete-bag waterproofing; Norevix does not publish a laminate specification.

The full published specification is on the Crossbody Bag 2.0 page. Longer treatments: fabric and coating, strap reinforcement and RFID, strap adjustment range, personal item limits, how to read a spec sheet.

CORDURA: verify the branded fabric, not just denier

CORDURA names a branded fabric portfolio. Its Classic family specifies textured nylon 6,6 yarns; TrueLock offers plain and ripstop constructions across 500D–1000D. Check the named fabric, supplier identification, finish and tests on the exact product. A generic 500D nylon label does not establish CORDURA fabric, certification or the properties of either family. Norevix has not published that identification.

Use the terms to compare two bags

Listing says Independent buying check
500D or 1000D Record actual fabric construction and complete empty weight; do not rank lifespan from yarn mass.
Ripstop or CORDURA Identify the exact fabric and relevant tear or abrasion test; do not infer cut-proof protection.
Coated or laminated Ask which layers and surfaces are treated, what was tested and what care is permitted.
YKK or water repellent Confirm zipper series and whether a claim covers shell, seams and closures together.

For examples, see the nylon, polyester and canvas comparison. Compare published dimensions and empty weights using the small crossbody specification table, then check your complete load separately.

Sources and scope

Material examples: the official CORDURA pages above and TOM BIHN's reinforcing-grid descriptions. Zipper distinction: YKK usage manual, section 3-1, and YKK's water-protective zipper explanation. These sources were checked on 2026-10-08. Norevix information uses the saved product specifications; this is not a new product inspection or performance test.
