How to check anti-theft bag claims before buying

Before buying an “anti-theft” bag, ask what part is protected, against which action, and how the claim was tested. A reinforced strap, a concealed pocket and an RFID lining solve different problems. The label alone does not tell you whether a zipper locks, the bag body resists cutting, or the finished product passed a test.

Use a claim-check table

Listing phrase Question to ask Evidence that would help
Cut-resistant strap Which section is reinforced: the whole strap, one segment, or the bag body too? A construction diagram and a finished-strap test with method and result.
RFID blocking Which compartment has shielding, and which frequencies or cards were tested? A test report that identifies the material, location and test conditions.
Secure zipper Does it lock, clip to another part, or simply close normally? A close-up of the mechanism and clear instructions for using it.
Hidden pocket Where is it when worn, and can it still be reached by its owner? Photos of the bag worn in the intended position.
Water-resistant Is the claim about fabric, coating, seams, zippers or the finished bag? A stated test method and condition; a fabric label alone is insufficient.

A laboratory result for a material sample is not automatically a rating for the finished bag. If a seller has no test result, treat the feature as a construction description and avoid assuming a performance level.

Apply the checklist to Norevix

The Crossbody Bag 2.0 listing describes a steel-cable structure in the strap, an RFID-blocking lining, YKK zippers and a rear pocket. The public listing does not provide a finished-strap cut test, an RFID shielding report or a zipper-lock mechanism. Its buckle should not be treated as a zipper lock. These are limits of the published evidence, not proof that the features do nothing.

The feature-by-threat matrix explains what each part can and cannot address. This page is the buyer's checklist for inspecting any listing. They answer different questions.

For a bag you already own, use the pre-trip zipper, seam and strap check to inspect its current condition before travel.

What to do when the evidence is missing

  1. Use the claim only at the level shown by the listing: “contains an internal cable” is more precise than “cut-proof.”
  2. Ask the seller for the relevant test, pocket location or close-up before relying on it for a specific trip.
  3. Plan normal carrying habits as well. Police.uk advises keeping bags closed and in view; it also warns that a zipped bag is not completely safe.

Carry the same questions into your shortlist

Ask which part is protected and what was tested. A feature name cannot establish finished-bag security performance.
